Biofaction (founded in 2010, https://www.biofaction.com/) is a research and science communication company based in Vienna, Austria. Biofaction has significant expertise in science communication, film production, technology assessment and the study of ethical, legal and social issues in a number of emerging sciences and technology (genetic engineering, synthetic biology, neurotechnology, converging technology).
We provide expertise and services in the following areas:
- technology assessment of new and emerging (bio)technologies
- art and science collaboration
- film and video production focusing on science and technology
- science communication and managing the science-society interface
We are an interdisciplinary group with colleagues having a background in biology, risk assessment, bio-design, social science, media production and art. Biofaction’s staff (current and previous) have international background coming from Austria, the Netherlands Egypt, Turkey, Ukraine, Russia and China.
We are mainly desktop base, but also are fully equipped with film cameras, light sources, sound etc. to produce videos and films both in the studio and on site. We also have a workshop full equipped to work with electronics (especially single-board
microcontrollers such as Arduino, Rasberry Pi), resins, 3D printers, wood, metal and basic wetware for microbial fuel cell prototyping and hydroponics (see ongoing EU project Mi-Hy: https://www.mi-hy.eu/ ).
