Rosie Broadhead
DC12 - Biofaction
Rosie Broadhead is a designer and researcher with an interdisciplinary background bridging microbiology and innovative textile solutions. She previously worked as a Textile Scientist at Ghent University, where her research centered on skin microbiome interventions and probiotic therapy through bacteria-encapsulated clothing. Rosie holds a master’s degree in Materia Futures from Central Saint Martins, London, and has held design and R&D roles at various sportswear and performance-led brands.
Her professional expertise at the intersection of the body, textiles, and environmental interactions has contributed to several peer-reviewed publications and involvement with the biotech spin-off company PHIOME. Her work has been internationally exhibited, including at del Mobile Milano, Dutch Design Week, and the Design Museum London.
Currently, as doctoral candidate DC12 in the NEUTEN project, Rosie’s research explores public perception, science communication through co-creation, two-way learning, and the development of design prototypes. Her work aims to communicate the potential of wastewater treatment technologies and their eventual impact on environmental ecologies, and the body.
